Media, Media on the Palm: Young Chinese Women’s Anxieties Triggered by Social Media Interactions (unpublished), November 2019.
Aiming to understand why and under what conditions young Chinese women suffer from anxiety attacks caused by social media, I designed this study and public events to research the key factors that trigger the research population’s anxieties and whether the emotions have any correlation with age or personal status.
The research was performed through distributing questionnaires and conducting semi-structured interviews with twenty-three target participants and seven reference participants, which revealed a few primary findings. By identifying these elements and mapping the conditions under which they operate, I propose a conceptual framework that is useful in understanding the key features of social media that cause or relieve young women users’ negative concerns.
